Teatro Renacimiento Arroyo, P.R.
A NEW SCENARIO
The project objective was the transformation of the former Cine Renacimiento (Renaissance Cinema), founded in 1922, to theater, creating a space compatible with new uses.
Arroyo
The name Arroyo (creek) commemorates the place where the visitors came to cool off. The city had its moment of glory when, in 1859, Samuel Morse test in Arroyo, his great invention, the telegraph. The famous inventor stayed in Puerto Rico in La Hacienda Enriqueta Morse, where his daughter lived. During his stay established the telegraph line, was opened in 1859.
Arroyo became the first town in Puerto Rico to have a telegraph that would allow people to communicate from long distance. Therefore, the main street is called Samuel Morse and there is a plaque in his name in the town square.
Former Cine Renacimiento, today a theater suited to the needs of the municipality and the new uses, is located on Morse Street, practically by the City Hall.
Acoustic Features
The current configuration shows a reverberation time RT = 1.30, which is .20 higher than ideal levels, which can create significant excess reverberation, which is generally undesirable and should be controlled.
Adopted Solution
Perforated MDF absorbent material comprising mineral fiber with a cavity 1" manufactured by Fantoni 4akustik. The most efficient configuration for this project is Eco 14/2, which consists of a panel with 14mm reflective surface and 2mm slot, a unique drilling diameter (absorbs mid and high frequencies) and 7% open area.
Location
Morse St. (PR-178) and Arizona 7 St. Arroyo, PR
Dimensions
Total Area = 79.200 sqft.
Area covered with acoustic material on the sidewalls = 1.292 sqft.
Date of Construction
April 2010 – June 2011
